Talk About a HUGE Fair!

Now, we come from a very small valley in Washington called Skagit Valley. It is small, yet still pretty well known for it's amazing tulip fields. Our fairs are nothing big, but still very enjoyable to go to, especially with little kids. Well . . we went to the San Diego County Fair. . and honestly, I don't even know how to explain this. It takes all meaning of what I thought a fair was, and pretty much crushes it! This place, was HUGE!

Now, we went to the fair with my parents, and as you may know, my dad has MS. So crowds are not his favorite thing, since they mess with his already messed up balance. Poor guy. But since we were at an extremely crowded place, he put a smile on his face, and had a good time anyways. (: To put this in perspective to anyone from our home town, their home and garden display was about the size of our ENTIRE fair back home. And I really don't think I'm over exaggerating at all.. I actually might be going on the small side on their part. LoL. We had a lot of fun walking around and checking out the outdoor plants though. Since we are hoping to do our backyard in the near-ish future, it was cool to see what dessert plants were popularly grown. (: Paetin just loved the flowers. Or at least to sniff them and sneeze.
Now . . fairs. What is your favorite part? The food? Cause man, they have some crazy fair food these days! The big event this year was the bacon doughnut. Does that even sound good to you?? My mom pointed out to me that if you get bacon in your syrup from your pancakes or waffles, that that tastes delicious, so you have to give this idea some credit.. I guess! LoL. I sure as heck didn't try it! Now, I am a bacon lover, so when we saw the booths for chocolate covered bacon [I also love chocolate] I just had to take a picture with it. I didn't try this either. . but I instantly thought of my father-in-law. .he makes fun of my fabulous bacon addiction all of the time. So of course I'd try one . . right? Well. . no. LoL. But I could pose none-the-less. (:
Paetin went on her first fair ride. Since this was close to the end of our vacation, cash was a bit lower, so we told her to pick her one ride! Plus my dad was starting to feel dizzy so we knew we'd have to head out fairly soon . . so one was good for all since we had babies to handle too. She picked a flyer ride, and absolutely loved it! Loved it even more since she KNEW she was tall enough to go alone. (: Now.  .have y'all ever seen a worm race? Sounds weird right? Well . . sounded interesting enough for me to take a look . .and well. It was so cool! I wish we had gotten to that exhibit at the start of the race and seen the whole thing verses just the end. . but I know what Paetin and I are going to do when it cools down a bit! Race some worms!!! (: Paetin has such a fascination with bugs lately. She really loved looking through the beehive and spotting the queen bee. I don't know who's kid she is, cuz I certainly don't enjoy bugs! I guess whatever keeps her happy. We did catch the turkey races. I don't know what you think, but it was absolutely as fun as it sounds!! They even had the baby turkies go for a run or two! We only spent a few hours at the fair since it was a LOT of walking being as big as it is, but it was really fun to look around. It was really different than what we are used to for sure! (: I'm glad that it was going while we were in town, a new experience is always fun.

  1. The Del Mar Fair? Now THAT is a FAIR!!! I tell ya, growing up down in San Diego, and then moving up here, . . . Mount Vernon feels like country compared to that! So glad you all had fun, too bad the kids aren't old enough to enjoy some of the concerts, they are terrific there!
